Banta Mokelle is the name of a chiefdom in Southern Sierra Leone. It is also the site of a generous donation of land that the Paramount Chief of the chiefdom made to Children of the Nations, Intl. The native tongue of the people in the region is Mende, and everyone can also speak Krio, the national language of Sierra Leone. Children of the Nations' village assistance program is located nearby a village called Ngolala (n-gwa-la), and includes a primary and secondary school, a medical and malnurishment clinic, kitchen, church, farm houses, crops, livestock, and national staff/intern housing. While the American headquarters funds all of the projects, a well-equipped and talented national staff runs the entire village assistance program and orphanage in Freetown, the capital city.
The following images were taken in the Summer of 2007 while I worked as an international intern.
