Professional Work
I am currently working full-time as Program Assistant for the University of Central Florida's Masters of Fine Arts program: MFA in Studio Art and the Computer. Please visit http://www.art.ucf.edu/MFAart/index.php for more information
During the Fall '07/Spring '08 school year, I worked with the University of Central Florida's Campus Activities Board. My role as Director of Cultural and Fine Arts involved event planning for guest lectures, music concerts, and awareness events. Guest speakers include Derreck Kayongo of Care, Intl; Chris Clark and Quami Agbermodji of Children of the Nations; David Young from Invisible Children; Brian Clamp, art dealer and owner of Clampart Gallery in New York; Ken Ashton, Artist and Museum Technician for the Corcoran in DC; and Lee Wells, Artist, Curator and co-founder of the Perpetual Art Movement (PAM). This position culminated with the challenge of coordinating a large concert titled Symphony Under the Stars which featured music by Richard Wagner performed in front of an audience of 1,000 UCF students and alumni.
Humanitarian Work
Since early 2006 I have advocated alongside one of the nation's fastest growing non-profit organizations, Invisible Children. This young organization fights against apathy and ignorance about the ever-increasing world issue of child soldiers. They work primarily in Northern Uganda and have provided much needed relief with new schools, jobs, and peace resolution with the rebel army since 2005.
My work with them includes benefit concerts, movie screenings, large-scale event planning, and guest speaking engagements throughout the greater Orlando area. In April 2009, I planned my third large-scale gathering in Orlando, FL called the Rescue of Joseph Kony's Child Soldiers, which had over 1,200 in attendance. There is much to learn, so please visit their website, www.invisiblechildren.com.
Additionally, I am a former intern and representative for the organization Children of the Nations, Int'l. During the Summer of 2007, I served two months in Sierra Leone working with a team carrying out various activities from building and painting new children's homes to teaching bible stories to local village children. I have given a few guest lectures on my experiences and have created a short film that documented my time there (see "Video" section) Please visit www.cotni.org to view new and ongoing projects and for child sponsorship opportunities in the many countries that Children of the Nations serves.
Locally in Orlando, I have worked with a homeless organization comprised of many current and former homeless individuals called The First Vagabonds Church of God, founded by Brian Nichols. This small church of transients gathers on Sunday afternoons in Langford Park to listen to words from Pastor Brian.
