This one-of-a-kind large urn has a natural wood ash glaze from California pine and oak. This was fired in an anagama kiln for 10 days. The clay used is a stoneware blend that mimics a Japanese "Bizen" clay body which produces a broad palette including yellow, orange, brown, gray and the occasional purple surface. This clay body also has feldspar inclusions which melt out and produce white pearls on the surface.

Dimensions: 17" H x 10" W

Date: 2023

Medium: cone 10 Stoneware

The concept was inspired by the idea of death being just a "checkpoint" to the afterlife. The lid was designed to look like the checkpoint object in Sonic the Hedgehog and the handles are molded from a Sega Genesis controller. With a wood ash surface, this urn looks ancient and retro simultaneously.

Honor a loved one with putting their ashes in this urn or it can also display well on its own as a sculpture.
